What is Botulinum Toxin Injection?

Botulinum toxins are neurotoxins that affect nerves and cause muscle paralysis. As repeated muscle contractions is a major contributing factor to facial wrinkles, these injectables are used in controlled doses to weaken muscle activity in the face and reduce the appearance of wrinkles for up to 3 to 6 months*.

The treatment may be applied to many parts of the face, most commonly around the eye and jaw areas.

How does the treatment work?

Prior to the injection, a numbing cream will be applied to numb the treatment area, minimizing any discomfort to patients. After the numbing cream takes effect, Botulinum Toxin will be injected into the treatment area.

How long does each session take?

Each session should take approximately 25 to 40 minutes, depending on the area of treatment and dosage required.

Is it painful? Is there any downtime?

As we numb the treatment area prior to the injection, there will be minimal discomfort in the injection areas. There is also minimal downtime to the treatment.

Is it safe?

While there is some negative publicity on Botulinum Toxin Injections causing the face to droop, these are very rare occurrences and are often caused by the use of excessive dosage or incorrect treatment practices.

Contrary to these tales, this treatment is actually very safe in the hands of trained professionals with minimal complications. Nevertheless, we recommend you to get a proper assessment done with our doctors prior to the treatment.

Am I suitable for this treatment?

Botulinum Toxin treatments are suitable for all skin types. However, if you have a relevant allergy or if you are unsure if there are any other concerns that might affect your suitability for the treatment, do consult our doctors.

Can I undergo other cosmetic treatments if I am already undergoing this treatment?

Yes! However there are certain treatments which we will not recommend you continue immediately post-Botulinum Toxin treatment. Do seek consultation with our doctors for more information on which treatments are contraindicated.
